Billiard Ball Logo
Introduction:
In this tutorial, we'll walk through the step-by-step procedure to make a billiard ball logo that has a Web 2.0 style. The letter in the middle of the billiard ball can be a representation of your company name. For example, if your company name was "Widgets", then you could put a "W" as the letter in the ball.
Step-By-Step:
1. Open a new document in photoshop. Set width/height to 250x250.
2. Create a new layer and name it "Ball".
3. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool, hold the shift key, and drag to make a perfect circle selection.

4. Select a color of your choice and fill in the selection using the Paint Bucket tool.

5. Select a lighter shade of the same color you chose in the previous step.
6. Select the Gradient tool and choose a gradient that goes from your light color to transparency.
7. Make sure that the Radial Gradient is active type of gradient option.
8. Drag from the top left of the circle to the bottom right to create a radial gradient that gives the ball it's 3D shading.

9. Goto Select > Modify > Contract. Contract by 5 pixels. Click OK.

10. Create a new layer and name it "Gloss".
11. Select white as your foreground color and fill in the circle selection using the Paint Bucket tool.

12. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool and drag over the bottom right of the circle as in the image below and hit the Delete key:

13. Set the Opacity for the Gloss layer to 80% or until you get a lighter shade for the gloss effect.

14. Create a new layer and name it "Inner Circle".
15. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool and drag over the top right of the circle to create a circle selection.

16. Select the Gradient Tool and choose a gradient that goes from light grey to white.
17. Make sure the Radial Gradient option is selected and drag over the small circle selection to create you inner white circle on the ball.

18. Create a new layer and name it "Shadow". Make sure this layer is below all other layers in the layer stack.
19. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool and drag a small oval below the ball.

20. Select a grey shadow color and fill the selection with the Paint Bucket tool.

21. Select the Type tool and type a letter for your logo (preferrably the first letter of your company name).

21. Goto Edit > Transform > Skew. Adjust the shape handles on the Type letter so that it angles with the white inner circle on the ball.

22. Hit the Enter key to accept the Transform Skew changes and you should now have your Billiard Ball Logo.
